Are you a big fan of Miyazaki Hayao? If your answer is YES, this is the place that you must visit in Japan, Ghibli Museum. This museum is designed by Miyazaki Hayao himself, fully of the element of the animation by Studio Ghibli.

If you are planning to visit the Ghibli Museum, here is some information for you.

1) Ticket

Once you confirmed the date to the museum,  you have to buy the ticket one month before, because the tickets are open for booking and selling at every 10th of the month in advance. No tickets are sold at the Museum. Besides, this museum has a daily limit of 2400 visitors. There are 4 periods to enter the museum which are 10:00, 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00. No matter which period you enter it, you can stay until they closed - 18:00. It is closed every Tuesday and may be closed temporarily for yearly maintenance.

2) Transportation

A community service bus is provided between the south exit of Mitaka Station and the museum. It needs only 5 minutes to reach the museum. The image on the bus is Totoro, one of the famous animation of Miyazaki Hayao.

If you don't want to take the bus, you can also walk there. There is only one way to the museum. You just need to walk along the river. This road has a beautiful name - The Wind Forest. Anyone familiar with the animation of Miyazaki Hayao should know it. The scenery along the road is amazing so it is also a good choice.

3) Attractions

Once you see this Totoro building, it means your fantasy journey begins. The Museum showcases the work of the Japanese animations by Studio Ghibli. The buildings here are totally the same looking in the animations. The Museum doesn't provide any map so "let's get lost together" (fun fact: "let's get lost together" is the Museum slogan). There are several exhibitions in the Museum such as three-dimensional zoetrope and showcase on the process of producing anime movie. Other features in the Museum are reading room, bookstore, rooftop garden and theater.

4) Rules for the Museum

Photography and video recording are strictly forbidden! The Museum wants everyone to savour and enjoy the scenery. Smoking is not allowed in the Museum. Eating and drinking are also prohibited.
